On November 19, 2024, a two-day training session on "Technical Assistance for the Development of Energy and Climate Projects" began in Pustomyty (Lviv region), with the participation of Volodymyr Muliar, Head of the Department for Strategic Development and Investments. The event brought together representatives of municipalities, experts, and specialists who are working together to develop projects in renewable energy and building renovation.

During the training, representatives from 14 Ukrainian communities discussed key challenges and opportunities for municipalities in implementing building renovation projects and renewable energy sources. In working groups, participants collaborated with experts to develop project ideas, assess technical possibilities, and explore models for financing project implementation.

The first day of the program started with registration and opening remarks by Oleh Sernyak, Mayor of Pustomyty, and Maksym Vereshchak, Project Coordinator of the EU "Covenant of Mayors – East". Participants had the opportunity to introduce themselves through an interactive exercise.

The main topics of the first day included:

  • Assessment of technical and financial capacity of municipalities, presented by Maksym Vereshchak.
  • Group work where participants developed recommendations for improving local capacities in project implementation.
  • Step-by-step algorithms for implementing building renovation and RES projects, presented by technical experts Kateryna Shishka and Dmytro Sakaliuk.

The training also provided a platform for discussing practical experiences, lessons learned, and recommendations for municipalities seeking to improve their energy efficiency.

The second day of the event, which took place on November 20, focused on presenting priority projects of the municipalities, discussing their prospects, and further group work. The project concept from the Rivne city territorial community was highly praised by experts and specialists at the training.

This event is part of the larger "Covenant of Mayors – East" initiative, aimed at promoting sustainable local governance and climate action in communities.
