COOPERATION WITH NEFCO

Three energy-modernized preschool institutions of the Rivne community have successfully completed the acceptance procedure for operation. Today, the technical advisor of the NEFCO corporation, Oleksiy Dumik, visited Rivne.

The Rivne Educational and Rehabilitation Center "Special Child", the compensatory type (special) preschool institution (nursery-kindergarten) "Pahynets Center," and the compensatory type (special) preschool institution No. 35 accommodate about 410 children. Among the children are internally displaced persons (IDPs) and children with special needs and disabilities.

"The buildings of these institutions had low energy efficiency and had long required major repairs. That is why we proposed thermal modernization to improve the conditions for children and educators. Thanks to modernization measures, we will be able to reduce community budget expenses by reducing the consumption of heat, electricity, and water. This is extremely important in these difficult times, as it is hard for the community to finance such measures on its own. The work completed will also help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which aligns with our commitments under the NetZeroCities initiative—to achieve climate neutrality by 2030. I would like to thank NEFCO for its partnership, which has lasted for nine years. During this time, we have implemented four projects totaling 3.76 million euros. I am glad that the cooperation continues, and we are working on launching another project," noted Viktor Shakyrzyan, the Secretary of the Rivne City Council and Acting Mayor.

"The European Union is pleased with the successful completion of the energy efficiency modernization project in Rivne, which has significantly improved the learning conditions for local children, including internally displaced persons and children with disabilities. This initiative confirms our unwavering commitment to assisting vulnerable groups of the Ukrainian population, especially during these challenging wartime circumstances. The EU continues to support projects that strengthen the resilience and well-being of communities across Ukraine," commented Joslen Corne, Head of the Reconstruction, Energy, Infrastructure, and Environment Department at the EU Delegation to Ukraine.

"NEFCO has long been and continues to be a fruitful partner of Rivne, and the successful implementation of yet another impactful project is a clear sign of the progress we are making together. We are glad that this project has improved the learning conditions for children in several preschools, and we look forward to further cooperation with the Rivne administration to create a brighter and greener future for Ukrainians," emphasized Oleksiy Dumik, Technical Advisor at NEFCO.

The project "Reconstruction and Restoration of Municipal Infrastructure in Rivne to Support the Urgent Needs of Internally Displaced Persons" was successfully implemented with financial support from the European Union and carried out by the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (NEFCO) under the NIP Program "EU Support to Address the Urgent Housing Needs of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Ukraine."

The project coordination in Rivne was carried out by the staff of the Strategic Development and Investment Department of the Economic Development Department, with the participation of representatives from the Capital Construction Department and the Education Department of the Rivne City Council.
